‘Sensitivity Editing’: The Modern Book Burning

Those who control the present, control the past and those who control the past control the future.

― George Orwell, 1984

True oppression never shows its face directly.

Rather, it always disguises itself as some public good only concerned with the welfare and safety of ordinary people.

Throughout history, dictators and totalitarians have justified their censorship and suppression as necessary to safeguard society from some supposed evil other.

The Nazis in Germany acquired and/or solidified power this way, targeting the Jews and so did the Communists in Russia and China, targeting the kulaks and the bourgeois.
