Dear reader,
I have been contacted by Julian Assange’s mother, Christine, in the wake of the disgraceful decision by the United Kingdom to accede to the request to extradite her son to the United States to face politically-motivated charges.
What follows is a statement by Christine that she has asked me — and you — to help distribute far and wide.
God bless you, your family and our nation.
And, for the sake of freedom, let’s free Julian Assange!
Take care,
George Christensen
Assange’s mother calls for diplomatic solution
Open letter by Christine Assange
Six months ago I put out a plea for help to save the life of my son Julian and to end his suffering. Read that plea here and below:
Today, on the back of the UK Government’s decision to extradite Julian to the United States, I respectfully make my plea directly to the parties involved, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the lead solicitor of Julian’s UK legal team, Gareth Peirce.
After 11-and-a-half years in pre-trial detention and with legal proceedings dragging on with no end in sight, it has become clear to all following that this case is political and requires a diplomatic solution.
When people become very invested in winning at all costs the collateral damage is truth, justice and humanity.
I implore all sides to take a step back from the heat of the fight for a moment and reflect.
I ask all sides to consider a diplomatic solution.
Negotiating an end to conflict is a normal part of civilized existence, within a marriage, the boardroom, long running legal cases and disputes between nation states.
In the spirit of bringing this to an end both sides will need to give a little.
Julian has been detained long enough to satisfy any needs for revenge from those pursuing prosecution.
He has suffered enough to satisfy those wishing to make him a symbol for press freedom.
I beseech those who say they really care about Julian to put his needs as a suffering human being first.
I have faith that, with good will on all sides, a resolution can be reached.
Yours faithfully,
Christine Assange
Julian Assange is a journalist and is entitled to be treated as such. No doubt he upset some powerful figures in the USA - some of what is now known as the Swamp - CIA, military and various neo-cons like Bush jnr ,Cheney et al. All in all,a rather scurvy crew. He revealed the truth, nothing else.
Successive Australian governments have been complicit in their lowlife behavior. One word covers it- suckholes.
I don't expect much sense from Albanese & Co but maybe they could surprise me by standing up to the Brits and the Yanks and demanding the immediate release of an Australian citizen held in,by any stretch of the imagination, unlawful custody.
I hear the mother's heart. 11 years in detention without resolution is criminal.
