Thank you for this heartfelt and enlightening article! I knew nothing about politics before Convid, but Tony Abbot always impressed me as being a straight shooter despite the seeming relentless MSM ridicule. By contrast Malcolm Turnbull impresses me as utterly self serving and someone who would sell his grandmother for two cents, if he thought there was any chance it would impress the right people. I often wondered if this treachorous political precedent was set by the successful knifing of Rudd by Gilliard in the years earlier.
I think the rot started at branch level much earlier. There were many pushing a weak, woke, agenda early in the 2000'ds, and they infiltrated head offices, branches, preselection committees etc. Conservatives, who had once been quite powerful, were backstabbed, undermined, pushed aside and discouraged, until they started leaving. That's how people like Turdbull emerged, from the fertile BS being spread all over the party.
Sure is full of rot now. The Tony Abbot moment was the beginning of the end for me too. Although I appreciate Mr Whittle’s comment above. Tony came in with a landslide but from the word go the “mod’s” in the party were out to oust him. Aided and abetted with the so called journalists. I always remember the attacks he came under for his foreign trips abroad. Such a thought provoking article George for me.
Spot on as usual George. Abbott's knifing was most certainly the beginning of the rot. As soon as it happened I knew it was over for the Liberals. Abbott was a good man. A real conservative. He made a few mistakes - Knighting Charles for one! My God!
The National's are no different. Under Barnaby Joyce's leadership they were strong, with great morals and ethics. I'll never forget him going off from time to time. Remember Cubbie Station being sold to the Chinese? When there were Australian buyers who wanted to invest in it? He was OUTRAGED and spoke to the media with contempt! I was outraged and contemptuous too!
Now they're led by that (in my opinion) weakling, non-National, personal-interest-and-power-only, David Littleproud. The man who was Water Minister (under Scott Morrison PM) and refused water for farmers from the Murray Darling Basin, and farmers (justifiably) threw an effigy of into the Murray! He is NOT a National.
Woke ideologues will win when people with solid conservative principals do nothing. At the age of 79 I am not in good shape to go into politics, but perhaps more of we serious conservatives could join the Liberal Party and try to inject some realism into party discussions.
When Al Gore produced his film “An Inconvenient Truth” I believed it, but reading science information during the last decade or so has enlightened me to the real science that shows there is no proof that changes in earth’s temperature, etc. are caused primarily by burning of fossil fuels - their effect is minor or even non-existent — there is no “climate emergency” — we should be replacing old coal power stations with new coal power stations (perhaps including some nuclear generation as that becomes economically and politically practical). We should repudiate the “Net zero by 2050” nonsense, and restore our base load generation capability with coal, gas, and nuclear (in that order).
We should stop destroying native forests and grazing land with solar farms and wind farms and the new transmission lines needed to bring their power to populated areas.
Wow, I have not read all this history before, but only small bits here and there. Seems like it's never about serving the public, more about empire building and making donors happy.
If all the taxpayers put in $5 and matched all the donations from Big business, could we all get to pay no tax and get lucrative contracts? Clearly no is the answer to that one. They rolled John Howard out for this election, and that probably was the only thing that bought votes, the rest was hollow and negative, although Labor were even more miserable. We get the government we deserve, so if Albo wants to import another 2M migrants and demolish the power stations, I say bring it on, because he will be judged accordingly, like the Liberals have been.
Straya is in dire straits due to the so called "Liberals" - a party that - post leftist and Green infections - does not deserve to exist.
The damage done by the Labor Greens JV is not for just three more years but the legacy is of generational proportions - and cannot be resisted, as has been demonstrated by what was supposed to have been competent opposition.
How can good governance exist when the political system is by design for a duopoly to switch roles every now and again?
A system so bad that it rewards failure,
A system that obnoxiously rewards many at the top of assorted dungpiles.
A system that alienates people by contempt, misinformation and lies, then claiming that Straya is a "Democracy".
A system that constantly makes scapegoats such as continued persecution if firearms owners - where the real reason is not safety, but compliance to the so called "United" Nations of total civilian disarmament. (which underwrites ALL dealings with that monster)
A system in which the players are completely absolved of all responsibility for bad decision making - eg: Climate Change and Energy .... another UN commitment!
A system that unquestioningly effects assorted edicts from the UN, such as the C19 Assault on Humanity .... and those within did so with NIL accountability.
A system that has weaponised police to be it's indifferent muscle, and assault disarmed citizens - completely unable to question let alone challenge.
A system that has destroyed what Australia was, and replace it with racism and a belief structure that requires our submission or be "smited" in a number of 'charming' ways should we not submit.
And then we MUST vote for the above because the above applies to both majors.
And finally, a system that refuses to abolish compulsory voting - because if they did, their cozy relationship would certainly collapse .... BAD for them - Good for us!
George, thank you! To help you get to Canberra, I have just subscribed. Hopefully others will too. We need, more than ever, political correspondents, like you, who know the game and how they play it. It's imperative that the truth be told otherwise we commit ourselves to the downward spiral of the Uniparty that eventually becomes the Socialist Party. God Bless you George for your courage and bravery!
Could not have had better news TURDBULL getting getting some of his own back - turfed out. Agree with everything said in comments about him - the all time Traitor.
"Malcolm Turnbull's public attacks on Donald Trump earlier this year may have cost him his cushy job as an advisor to one of the world's biggest private equity firms.
After his departure from politics, the former prime minister joined New York-based Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co (KKR) in 2019 as one of its Asia Pacific senior advisor"
it is quite clear the libs hate small business. too busy pandering to those who will never vote for them. especially the WFH backflip. not only is it wrong (to work from home) but they will never vote for you. but the libs don't get it. Sure lots of mums like to work from home. I not stupid either, cause I work from home. I like it. But you don't get the benefits of public service job, (work security) and work from home.
George - I totally agree with what you have written. Malcolm Turnbull's day by day relentless attack on Tony Abbott was appalling. For Tony it was like swimming in a shark tank from which there was no escape. I feel we can use the term 'deplorable' with regard to MT. Tony's job made oppressively more difficult under the circumstances. Actually, just before Tony Abbott was knifed, he put it to the Parliament to withdraw from the Paris Accord. By then, the media bias was such that anything Tony suggested was howled down. He is still demonized now! Yet he is an articulate thinker. His most recent summary of the Labour win as it will affect this country is succinct and accurate. When MT fell from grace - he lauded and congratulated himself on the fact that his most impressive contribution was s-s marriage. Well done, Malcolm Turnbull!. Such a 'bottom-dweller'.
[I have borrowed the quote from the film, You've Got Mail where Meg Ryan's character 'Kathleen' threw this insult at 'Joe' (played by Tom Hanks). Apt without being crass. I'm not happy with Morrison either.
it happens in every industry. happens a lot in 'council'. it is when operatives lose respect of reality. When people get promoted beyond their station or experience. when persons like MT, think they can bypass the queue. Granted it takes humility to do waiting. Most of us have to wait whether we like it or not. When you earn money quickly without having to put the work in, you get a big head.
My take on it is that these people (honourable members) are all lawyers who have never had to earn a quid. You get passed by a Porche in suburban street- probably a lawyer and we are ruled by these people. No experience on how the people have to live.
You have written some great pieces lately.

The Liberals and Nationals have both been infiltrated by socialists.

The LNP are dead!

We always knew that Turnbull has been "pouson". You have made it abundantly clear. Thank you. I will pass this on in any way I can
